Why we have set up a community & academy

We live in a digital age and a connected society. So, what if we were to adopt the lessons learned by succesful platforms?

  • digitally bringing  together & aligning purpose driven supporters, (young) professionals, academics, experts and partner organizations?
  • facilitating them with mobile & instant access to advice, support a common network & resources?
  • enabling them to use the wisdom of the crowd?
  • providing a safe platform to collaborate across sectors & disciplines?
  • build upon our collective knowledge, which we gather for the benefit of all?
  • replace inefficienct duplications and ineffective routines through mutual beneficial cooperation?
  • can we overcome difficulties that are caused by ad hoc funding, limited capacity & resources?
  • sharing insights and developments & provide common oversight?
  • establishing a refined common, coherent and integrated approach?
  • Offering support and providing tangible & measurable solutions for today’s challenges?

The answers to these questions are the guiding principles for Gather4Humanity. Building connections. Facilitating interaction, engagement & collaboration. Empowerment. Optimizing practices. Access to operational support. Increasing our common impact.  Monitoring progress and developments. Sharing best-practices and approaches developed across sectors and disciplines. Allowing personal & professional growth.

What communities do

Communities address what matters most to its members. Whether it is a shared interest, common values, purposes, concerns or practices. Communities are being established to underscore common ground and to develop, share & maintain knowledge & resources. Communities nurture a network & common culture by building trust, respect, willingness and opportunities to cooperate, engage & share. Communities enable members to to ask and provide support and advice. Communities aim to provide a win for you or your organisation, a win for the community as a whole and a win for its common mission and activities. Members improve their practices & routines and increase their mutual impact through interaction and exchange of best-practices, ideas, solutions and innovations.

Why we chose a different approach

“With each new crisis and international crime, we play catch-up. We focus our efforts  on resolving existing situations and perpetrated crimes with our reactive tools & instruments. But then, by definition, we are too late. So I speak from experience when I say that what is required for addressing core international crimes, is an entirely new conceptual framework based not (just) in resolving situations and finding redress, but in preventing these situations and crimes. I believe that what is required now is a radical change in how we view humanity and the abuses on human beings of any and all persuasions, religious or ethnic groups. This will require a revolutionary integration of disciplines, working in concert for innovative solutions that ensure multi-faceted engagement.”

Inspired by and constructed upon the words of Romeo Dallaire, commandor of the UN troops in Rwanda during the 1996 genocide. Spoken at the occasion of the 75th birthday of the United Nations
